Joshua Nathanson nell’interpretazione di una favola di Henri Bergson che compara la schiuma delle onde al sorriso dell'oceano, porta il pubblico, nella sua prima mostra personale europea, attraverso il sogno ad occhi aperti dell'artista che dipinge scene del quotidiano ludico visibile nelle spiagge californiane - piene di colori, con elementi che in qualche misura si elevano a simboli di spensieratezza o felicità, come il drink con la cannuccia o gli occhiali da sole - in una visione surreale di scene d'ogni giorno e movimenti in riva al mare. In una nuova definizione dello spirito che animava i dipinti di Philip Guston, ogni lavoro è come una vignetta, densa di elementi allegorici. L'artista sembra immergersi in felici paradossi "saltellando" da un dipinto all'altro e richiamandone vicendevolmente i contenuti con la ripetizione di alcuni elementi. Come nelle immagini di un fumetto che sfogliamo di quadro in quadro, possiamo leggere una storia di libero pensiero ma anche di intensità, in un nuovo linguaggio che contrappone visioni di infanzia vissuta e mai dimenticata, nel tentativo adulto di ritornarvi. Joshua Nathanson è nato nel 1976 a Washington, DC e vive e lavora a Los Angeles, CA. Ha esposto, nella sua prima personale, alla galleria Vairous Small Fires di Los Angeles e in mostre collettive presso le galleria ARNDT, Singapore, Four81, New York, 356 S. Mission, Los Angeles, Pepin Moore, Los Angeles. Tra le mostre future ricordiamo la personale alla galleria Kaikai Kiki, Tokyo e la collettiva "Takashi Murakami’s Superflat Collection-From Shohaku and Rosanjin to Anselm Kiefer" al Yokohama Art Museum, Yokohama.
